What we do

Decks and outdoor living: what we do

We build decks and the outdoor work that goes around them. The jobs on this page are ours: a deck finished in Trex decking, a composite deck with black vertical cable railing, a pool deck with white railing and white lattice underneath, a covered patio on the back of a house, and a failing retaining wall rebuilt with new timbers and concrete pylons.

Some of these jobs go back to 2020.

We are a small, family-run business, and Aaron and Ava are on the job site every day. Tell us how you want to use the yard. At the walkthrough we go through size, layout, decking and railing with you, then put it in a free quote.

We work in Appleton, Menasha, Fox Crossing, Neenah and Greenville, and nearby.

  • Composite and Trex decking

The decks in our photos are composite boards, in brown and in gray. One was finished in Trex for a customer who was glad to be done with staining.

  • Cable and vinyl railing

Black vertical cable railing leaves the view open. White vinyl railing is the more traditional choice. Both are in the photos on this page.

  • Steps and stairs

Two wide steps that run the full width of a low deck, or stairs with a railing down from a raised one. Both are in the photos here.

  • Pool decks

A gray composite deck that curves around an above-ground pool, with white railing, stairs and white lattice skirting underneath. Aaron’s caption when it was finished: “Who wants to go swimming?”

  • Covered patios

A roof over the patio so it gets used in more weather. The one in our photos has a gabled roof, a wood plank ceiling and cedar posts on stone bases.

  • Retaining walls

One wall we rebuilt was bowed and failing. We replaced it with all new timbers and concrete pylons. The new wall runs in three tiers between the house and the pool.

01Decks

The cable railing deck

A composite deck with black vertical cable railing, from the end of 2020. The thin cables leave the view of the trees and the water open. One photo looks out over the water, and the other shows a corner of the deck beside the stone house.

02Decks

The Trex deck

A low deck behind the house, finished in brown Trex decking, with two wide steps that run its full width. It is from June 2020, and the customer was “very happy to never have to stain again.” There is room on it for the grill and a couple of chairs.

03Decks

The covered patio

This covered patio went on the back of a house as part of an exterior update that also extended the garage. It has a gabled roof, a wood plank ceiling and cedar posts on stone bases. Aaron’s January 2023 post also notes a frost wall poured in the back, so that space can be finished off later.

Questions about decks

How much does a new deck cost?

It depends on the size, how high it sits off the ground, and the decking and railing you choose. We go through it with you at the walkthrough and put it in your quote. The quote is free. Call or text Aaron at (920) 850-1010.

Is composite decking worth it over wood?

It comes down to upkeep. A wood deck needs to be stained or sealed every so often, and composite boards do not. The decks in our photos are composite, and the customer with the Trex one was very happy to be done with staining. If you are deciding between the two, bring it up at the walkthrough and we will talk it through for your deck.

Do you do deck repair, or only new decks?

Ask us either way. Aaron’s line is “No job is too big or small.” Call or text (920) 850-1010 with a few photos and tell us what is going on. Some decks need a few new boards or a railing, and some have problems underneath that make a rebuild the better call. We would have to see yours to say which. The retaining wall on this page was a rebuild: the old wall was bowed and failing, so we replaced it with all new timbers and concrete pylons.

Do I need a permit to build a deck?

It depends on the deck and on your city or town. If yours needs one, we take care of it for you. Ask about it at the walkthrough and we will tell you what your project needs.

Who will be at my house building the deck?

Aaron and Ava are on the job site every day. We are a father-daughter team and a small, family-run business. Aaron’s advice to anyone hiring a contractor is to find one that is “on site all the time and involved in the process of your project.”
